ManCat Monday

Thought our friends would appurrciate an update on Carlos on this ManCat Monday!

Carlos has been back home with us for 2 weeks now, and a few days after he arrived here, Teri took him to the vets for an exam and to talk about his Pica behavior issue. There isn't a lot of things he can get into in the room he is sharing with Sammy, but it is not void of edible non-food items.

There are cat beds, curtains, bathmats and yes, Plague Rats! This one had a nose job courtesy of Carlos and Teri said it reminds her of Fozzie Bear now, HahaMeow!

The vet didn't want to start him on anxiety meds, but wanted to try some calming products first. Teri told her she had already tried Royal Canin Calm diet, and Rx Vitamins for Pets Nutricalm and even Axitane...with not any noticeable change, but she went along with the vet's recommendations to see if the products she recommended would help.

So Carlos is wearing a NuturCalm Collar and is taking Vetri-Science Composure Chews. For a few days after his vet visit, he really was 'off', not eating much and very subdued.

Teri wasn't sure if it was because he got his Rabies vaccination or if he had been incubating something that the stress of moving brought on, but he finally started eating and was back to normal in a few more days.

For the first week, Carlos was pretty much sequestered in the large cage. There was lots of hissing on his part, and Sammy seemed a bit confused about who this angry intruder was.

But after a week had passed, and Teri let them out together with supervision, there was a lot less hissing and a lot more interest in getting along.

Carlos has even met Brighton, and Teri isn't sure if that is why the Plague Rat got his nose chewed off or not. . . Maybe Carlos doesn't want a lot of friends, maybe it makes him anxious. . .

That's something Teri will have to try and figure out, so that eventually, Carlos can find a forever home that is to his liking and compatible with his personality.
