Frootbat Friday

This F.F., here's some pix of Abbie and Picchu, each with their own style of Frootbattiness!

Abbie is a Sphynx (or a Devon Rex...Teri is leaning more towards Devon Rex as her head shape is more to the D.R. standard...

But Abbie was sprung from a kill shelter in West Virginia a few years ago, with Teri's help and was adopted by Picchu's family...Yay! The shelter said she was a Sphynx, and she could be just a very hairy Sphynx, like Disco is...

Picchu is one of our extended family and actually has less fur than Abbie, hahameow! In these photos, you can see the difference in the size and shape of her ears compared to Abbie's...

But both girls have lovely Frootbats, don't you think?!

Ps: Oh, for an update on how they are doing with their 'inappropriate urination issues'...they are doing perfectly 100% compliant with using their litter boxes and during the day, they have free run of Teri's our bedroom and no peeing on bedding or blankets there, either! Another Yay!

They sleep in the bathroom at night so we can canoodle with Teri, cuz that's only right! Next week when our B & B guests go home, Abbie and Picchu get to move into the Library Room...

And we'll get our bedroom back 24/7 again.
More Yay's!

Disco has a following of swooning LadyCats... those who love Large, HahaMeow!

And he got a Valentine's Day purresent from his special LadyCat, Stella, which made him swoon...

The 'Snochi' snow storm delayed the mailman, but Disco's ardor was not diminished in the least!

Wordless Wednesday

Teri used some kind of artsy photo thingy to make this photo into a painting a long, long time ago...

She used to have it as her desktop photo on her old computer...

For a while, she used this pretty photo, more sleepy kitties!

There's a saying "You cannot gaze upon a sleeping cat and be tense, and we think no truer words have ever been spoken! Remember after your nap, to Hop today, OK!

ManCat Monday

Everyone knows we are travelin' cats, and many know that Teri kinda has a 'thing' for fancy cat carriers!

We have had utilitarian ones, and fancy ones...

But our favorite is the SleepyPodWe only had one of those cuz they are very expensive (but also the ONLY crash tested carrier on the market)...

Well, Teri entered the Pet Travel Expert's 'It's Love Giveaway' and she won a SleepyPod!

It’s Love Giveaway Winner… I’m Sure, It’s Love!

So instead of Coco's pink one, which we have to share from time to time (it's not that we are against more color in ManCat style), now we will have a ManCatly Dark Chocolate SleepyPod that we will be purroud to be seen in!

Brighton says it will go well with his coloring and his wardrobe...What do you think?

Disco says the Pod might be a snug fit for him, but what better incentive to lose some weight?

(Not So) Wordless Wednesday

Teri's been kinda busy lately...cuz even though Snickers & Twix went off to their new forever home a couple of weeks ago, we now have two new kitties staying with us.

Picchu (one of our extended family) and Abbie (a Sphynx Teri helped spring from a shelter in West Virginia) are going to be staying with us until September cuz their CatMom is in Afghanistan.

They had been in a foster home since August and Teri had been going over every couple of month to give them a Spa Day and check on them. But Picchu was having some out-of-litter box issues and she had lost quite a bit of weight, so their CatMom asked Teri to take over their care and she would pay her, so that would help us out financially, too.

So Teri went and picked them up on February 3rd and started pouring the food to them. Silly Teri started pouring the food them them, a big change and she thinks it upset Picchu's stomach. They had been on ProPlan dry mealtime fed and she put it out free choice, but they didn't seem to be gorging. She also added ProPlan canned.

Maybe Teri shouldn't have done that at the beginning--too many changes? What happened next was that Picchu got sick and Teri had her vet out to see her. This vet also does house calls, which is nice cuz Picchu hates car rides! Disco got sick 2 weeks ago with a bout of pancreatitis, and Teri thought Picchu may be having a similar issue.

Picchu's exam showed her to be dehydrated with squishy 'stuff' felt in the intestines. She looked through all her old vet records and feels her vomiting is not normal (she has a history of having a 'sensitive stomach'.

The meds Teri gave Disco for his recent bout of pancreatitis is what Picchu is taking and she is back to feeling good again and has put on 6 ounces already. Yay! Unfortunately, Abbie has also put on 6 ounces and she didn't need to gain weight, hahameow!

We got Picchu's labwork back and this is what the vet said:

She is not diabetic or hyperthyroid.  Her kidneys and liver are functioning normally. Her labs show that she has some inflammation (the elevation in neutrophils) and that she is slightly anemic.  The sodium and chloride levels are due to her vomiting.

I think it would be a good idea to get "whole cat" radiographs on her.  The anemia, especially given her state of dehydration yesterday, is what I am most worried about. If she were adequately hydrated, the RBC count would be even lower.

If she doesn't put on weight and is still feeling crappy for a few days, then you need to go ahead and have radiographs done.  Unfortunately, what I'm on the hunt for in the xrays is cancer. But who knows... You may have just induced a bout of pancreatitis and she will put on weight after being back with you for a while.

We hope that is the case, cuz we are all worried about Picchu, and want her to be happy and healthy again! We'll keep you all 'in the loop' about Picchu and Abbie while they stay with us!

Oh, it's Wednesday, so don't forget to Hop!

This handsome ManCat is Duncan, one of our extended family!

He lives with his family in Maine...

As you can see, he is pampered, and like most spoiled kitties,
gets to snuggle in warm laundry right out of the dryer!

ManCat Monday

Tater Du aka Teddy, is one of our extended family...

He can be a bit of a Norty Boy!

But it's actually his 'brudder', Henry Oliver, that is the troublemaker right now!

Since the families old kitty went to the Bridge, HO has been spraying and being aggressive to Teddy.
That happens when the heirarchy changes in a kitty home sometimes. This is what they told Teri:
We are having some isssues with Teddy peeing outside the box. There also seems to be some weird dynamics between HO and Teddy since Bailey died. We have an internist on board who actually came to our house to check things out. She has run every test and all are normal. She believes its behavioral and is working with a board certified feline behaviorist at U Tenn. We are trying Feliway, extra play time, new litter box locations and safe zones for just Teddy.... HO seems to be driving him nuts. No worries we will figure it out. He will not be coming back to you! We will work thru it. I do love having the vet come to the house....she can actually see what his behaviors are in the comfort of our home. She is working with our reg vet and I am confident we can get thru this. Prozac made him a zombie no matter what dose we tried....hence calling in the internist.

We are glad this family loves their ManCats so, and are going to seek help for them instead of just giving them up... We will keep our furriends updated on how Teddy and HO are doing!

Update: Teddy seems to enjoy more play time and likes his safe zone areas to sleep. I also think the feliway helps. Tried the collar on HO but he falls over! Haha work in progress!
