Honoring Those Who Came Before, on Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day

Cascais, the very first cat I loved...

Not a day goes by that I don't think of the kitties I have loved, and lost... They say that grief truly never goes away, but softens with the passage of time, and that one can eventually remember those we have loved and gently smile when thinking of them...without grief and pain, but with joy at having been able to share our lives with them all.

Bo, the cat I call my Heart Cat

For me, each cat I have had the honor of sharing my life with brought with them love, and the reason I love the cats I share my life with now is because of the very first cat I ever loved...

Sweet Nanjizal Bay...lived into her Golden Years in spite of severe heart problems

I cannot imagine my life without cats beside me, and to honor the pets we have loved and who have crossed the Rainbow Bridge is the reason for this special day, the Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day.

Skiddy, spent her golden years with me, being loved...

The sadness we experience when losing a beloved pet, can truly be shared with others who have cared deeply for the animal companions they have had the privilege of walking through life with.

Share your remembrances of your pets who have crossed over the Rainbow Bridge by visiting the Remembrance Day event page on Facebook, and celebrate their life by posting a photo or a poem there...https://www.facebook.com/events/310553242613822/

Nacho, a brave boy... so deeply missed

Sammy, your loss was so recent, my heart still aches...

Frootbat Friday, with a Fashion Friday Style!

Brighton's Frootbats are so large, he has to fold them down to fit in his Sleepypod, hahameow!

He was in his Pod to make a trip to see the cardiologist, because he has heart disease and he is due to have a dental procedure in a couple of weeks and it's the smart thing to do to have his heart check up on before he undergoes anesthesia.

Of course, all the kitties of Curlz and Swirlz are also fashion-forward cats and Brighton is no exception! Here he is in the waiting room at the vets, looking elegant in his tuxedo by Darlene Hachey.

See, Coco isn't the only cat dresses in couture! In fact, this tuxedo was made to match a lovely gown she wore at the Paws in the City NYC Celebrity Catwalk fashion show! And she has some pretty nice Frootbats herself!

But today was Brighton's day and he attracted lots of admiring glances while at the vets, from all the staff!

We are happy to report that his heart defect is stable and he still requires no medication for it, and he has been cleared to have his dental cleaning performed! And it's comforting to know that there is also a cardiologist at the dental clinic he will be going to!

Celebrating International Cat Day aka World Cat Day

Disco and Coco are dreaming of a world with no homeless cats

We were not sure when or who came up with the idea for a day to honor us cats (since we expect it every day!) but when we googled it, we saw that The Fund for Animal Welfare created International Cat Day way back in 2002.

Today is the day the world celebrates International Cat Day and it has been heartwarming and thought provoking to read everyone's posts for today. We have been blogging about 9 years now and one thing we know...the Cat Blogosphere is full of compassionate and caring cat lovers, who work together to help all kitties, and maybe today is about humans helping cats...

Sweet Kely has her forever home with us!

We join in many fundraisers and are reminded every day of the homeless and abused cats in need and sometimes it does seem overwhelming, but if you can end your day making a difference in just one cats life, then the day is not wasted, right?!

Nolo was a homeless kitty we helped find a forever home for!

Hooray for International Cat Day---do something special for the cats in your life, plus an extra for one cat in need! We dropped off a fun cat toy to keep some homeless kitties entertained til they can find their forever home!

#PetSafe Wants All Pets to Stay Hydrated...We'll Drink to That

Disclaimer:  We are happy to be a part of this product review, and we did receive a free PetSafe® Drinkwell® Avalon pet fountain to use and review, and keep. However, all of the opinions about the product are ours and not dictated in any way by the company. We only share information that we feel is useful and relevant to our readers.

Did you know that all cats originated from desert-dwelling creatures?? Because of that, we kitties don't drink enough water unless encouraged! Us kitties should drink one ounce of water for every pound of body weight each day!

There are many ways to try and increase the amount of water a cat takes in each day, one being feed all wet food, as it contains about 87% water. Another way is to leave the faucet in the kitchen sink dripping, but then we guess humans have a hard time moving us out of the way to wash the dishes, hahameow!

But we think the best (and most stylish) way is to ask your servants to buy you a PetSafe®  Drinkwell® fountain! Teri has gifted us with a couple of PetSafe® fountains over the years and we enjoyed the clean, fresh, aerated water very much!

But Teri said the older models where as much work as taking care of an aquarium, hahameow! So we were very excited when PetSafe® contacted us to see if we would like to try one of their newest styles, The Avalon!

PetSafe® has some really great products and one thing that impressed Teri (and made her smile) was PetSafe's support of the BlogPaws Conference and how many of their pet fountains they placed in the hallways at the conference in Phoenix last June!

It was hot, hot, hot in Phoenix and it is so important for both humans and pets to keep hydrated in the heat. Teri  said she didn't do too well herself! She took along little packets of electrolytes to add to her water bottle and guess how many packets she used?? ONE!  But she was happy to know the doggies were being taken care of thanks to PetSafe®

PetSafe® sponsored National Pet Hydration Awareness Month in July and we were so busy napping (and drinking from our fabulous new PetSafe® Avalon Fountain) that we forgot to tell everyone about it!

Of course, the heat of the summer, even for us indoor-only kitties, has everyone thirsty, pets and humans alike. PetSafe® even made this cool infographic as a great visual aid in teaching humans why pet hydration is so important!

What are all the benefits of staying hydrated for pets? Well, it lowers the risk of urinary tract disease (something we almost lost Brighton to a few years ago), and it speeds recovery from illness and surgery. And it is also very important that older kitties with kidney disease stay well-hydrated too! Our senior catizen, Kely,  falls into that category now, as she is in Stage 2 Kidney Disease.

Proper hydration plays a big role in a pet's health and knowing the signs of dehydration early can save you a trip to the vet's...that's a biggie!! PetSafe® even made a video to help pet owners learn  how to check for the signs of dehydration in your cat or dog!

PetSafe® now makes 6 different styles of fountains, and we are positive there is one that will fit your pets perfectly, but we got to test the Avalon and Teri even got to pick the color! She said red would look nice in our kitchen, and that's where she set it up!

PetSafe®  Drinkwell® Avalon fountain holds 70 ounces of water and is made of dishwasher-safe ceramic and one of the things Teri likes best about it is that it's super easy to clean! The only moving part is the pump!

She also likes the way the water flows, giving us choices if we want to drink from the bowl or from the 'waterfall'...Kely likes the waterfall the best!!
