Brighton's Birthday!

Six years ago today, a kitten nicknamed Surfer Dude was born...

Our petsitters kids nicknamed all the kittens born at Furrydance Cattery, and this little kitten got the nickname when he bounced around on the waterbed, hahameow!

So when Surfer Dude became a show cat, he had to have a show cat name... and he became the cat known as Brighton,  as Brighton is a beach in Cornwall.

Even at the tender age of 3 weeks, Brighton
had a handsome face and mesmerizing eyes...

He even had to admire his handsomeness himself,
who can blame him...

with his copper eyes and everso soft marcelled fur,
he made friends far and wide...

And today he celebrates his 6th birthday, with a couple of friends, and a feast of real tuna, quite appropriate for a Beach Boy, don't you think?

And since he knows how to have fun, here's a silly Birthday song...Please, sing along and wish Brighton a Happy Birthday, too!

ManCat Monday--Disco's Diet

Another 3 ounces melted away this week---Yay Disco!

Teri says she is going to add a page to our bloggie so that everycat who is having diet challenges of their own can maybe get some 'inspiration' from Disco...

Simply Sunday...

Teri had a 'productive' weekend...which means we didn't get to visit any of our friends once again! We did get in some Cat TV though, in between napping...

She washed about half the windows in our house and shampooed the carpets in her our bedroom, and the hallway and stairs--she put us in the basement overnight so we wouldn't walk on the wet carpets and get chemicals on our paws (then she disappeared so we guess she went over to her man friends house...Yep, he fixed her a tasty Polish meal, too--Lemon Soup, Perogi, Cucumber Salad, Mushrooms in Cream and Sauerkraut...

The plants she planted last week survived her ignoring them all week and sprung back to life when she watered them yesterday. Ps: that's not catnip but mint for something Teri likes called Mojitos).

And here's some pix of our fake flowers...they look pretty healthy, too, don't they?! That's our little Piskie from Piskie World in Cornwall, hahameow!

We hope all furriends had a great weekend, too...We are hope that Prancer Pie is feeling better now and are glad Auntie Judi Bug has cat bloggy friends surrounding her, too....

Another Mancat, Wordy, Thankful, Fashion Caturday!

Here it is...Caturday already! Are our Furriends ready for another 'novella'? OK! Let's start with ManCat Monday--Disco's Diet:

MeWowZa (Teri says she is thinking of getting purrsonalized license plates that say that)...Disco is down to 15# on the nose (or butt, hahameow).

Yep, since February 27th, Disco has lost a total of 1# 3 ounces now! We be furry hapurry about that, and the fact that we no longer have to starve just cuz he's on a diet...Thanks to Young Again Zero Carb!
We think by the time June is here, Disco will be pretty buff if he keeps shedding those ounces...

And for a belated Whisker Hump Wednesday...Here's Sammy curvacious Humps (in an old photo before he had to have a full mouth extraction due to resorptive lesion dental disease...).

Sammy's muzzle is a little more pointy now he doesn't have 'fang' teeth, but he is happier, healthier and actually fatter than he was with ouchy toofers!

And Thankful Thursday? Here's a lovely photo of Candi, one of our extended family that Teri got to spend some time with on Earth Hour Evening last week...

And for a Fun, Springtime Fashion Statement, here's Coco, sporting her cute new Daisy Harness ...something she could wear at BlogPaws if she is the lucky cat who gets to go with Teri in June!

On an 'Oh Noes' note,  the perfect home that Teri picked out for Hero ended up not being able to adopt him cuz their landlord changed their mind about letting them have a cat...Here' what Emily and Daniel sadly wrote to Teri:

Hi Teri,

I'm so sorry for the delay in communication. Daniel and I have been trying everything we can to see if we can still adopt Hero. VERY late last week, our landlord decided that him and his wife (who has mild cat allergies) have decided they might, one day in the future, want to move back into the house. So, for that reason they do not want us to get a cat.

I was heart broken. We offered to pay a pet deposit, pet rent, and to get the house professionally cleaned as often as they would like. They still said no. So Daniel called and tried speaking to our landlord about the fact that he has cat allergies and  had no trouble when he visited Hero and the other cats at your home. Apparently the landlord's wife is concerned that their child might someday develop cat allergies, and is unwilling to risk it.

Teri, I cannot tell you how upset Daniel and I are. We really feel like Hero is the perfect cat for us, but unfortunately  we are stuck at the moment, and won't be able to adopt him :(. You have been so wonderful throughout this entire process, and I am so sorry to have to give you this terrible news). Thank you so much for your offer to keep Hero for us, but I would hate for him to not go to another wonderful home who could take him right away.

If it would be okay with you, if our landlord changes his mind, or when our lease is up and we move, I would like to contact you again in case you still have Hero, or have another wonderful cat up for adoption.

Again Teri, I honestly cannot express to you how sad Daniel and I are about the way this turned out. We did not expect this at all. Please let me know if you have any other ideas we could try.

Thank you for all of your help and patience,

Emily and Daniel

Sad news, huh? And Hero and Clem are doing so well, too. They now get to have some 'house time' (while we are in the basement so we don't intrude on the 'introoders') and they both are still using the litter boxes without any lapses (um, unlike Disco who sprayed in Teri's our bedroom after Hero and Clem were out and about today!).

and a couple of short videos of their runnin' and rompin' fun times!

In fact, 'the boys' have a little bit of cabin fever now that they know there's a world of fun outside their bedroom door! Here's some pictures of the 'remodeling' they've been doing behind closed doors...

But Hero and Clement told us they rearranged their blankies cuz their food bowl was empty!

(they also have a funny habit of putting toys on their food plate when they are done eating, hahameow!)

So, that catches you up to today...let's hope we have some time this weekend to visit you all, too...we keep trying to catch up, but our cat naps must get in the way of progress...or is that Teri's sleeping in that does it?

Oh...and after that nap, don't forget to Hop and meet n greet a few new friends!

When one hops, one should:

1) Follow your co-hosts (the 1st 3 pets on the Hop)
2) Check out some blogs that you've never visited before
3) Let them know you're visiting from via the Saturday Pet Blogger Hop
4) See how many new friends you can make, and follow, too!

Happy Easter Egg Hunting Day!

Oh's almost Mancat Monday and we didn't do an Easter post! Hope everyone's day was filled with Catnip Jelly Beans, hahameow!

Coco said the dress is fine, but the ears...Ridiculous!

Disco said 'I am a rare 4 eared cat'

(Brighton said...My ears are fine just the way they are, thank you!)

Thankful Thursday...If just one person learns from this post, we will be Thankful...

All parts of the lily plant (leaves, petals, bulbs, even the pollen!) are considered toxic to cats and consuming even small amounts can be life threatening. Within a few hours of ingestion of the lily plant, a cat may vomit, become lethargic or develop a lack of appetite. These signs continue and worsen as kidney damage progresses. Without prompt and proper treatment by a veterinarian, the cat may develop kidney failure in 36 to 72 hours.

I continue to be surprised at the number of people who do not know that the Easter Lily is one of the most toxic plants to cats, and how the plants are not labeled with warnings!

This time of year, every grocery store has huge displays of Easter candy, baskets, egg decorating kits and yes, Easter Lilies...all ready to be put in the homes of unsuspecting cat owners!

There are many nice alternatives to having lilies in the house (most lilies are toxic to cats, but not seen inside homes as often). Orchids, Easter cactus and violets are options, as are lovely artificial silk lilies.

Whisker Hump Wednesday (and Disco's diet update)

Ya'll probably know who's Humps these are, hahameow! Maybe we should call them Whiskerless Humps!

Disco actually does have whiskers, but they are very short and curled, kinda like a baby's eyelashes
And since we missed another ManCat Monday--Disco's Diet update, we are purroud to announce that Disco weighed in on Monday at 15# 5 ounces! Down 4 ounces this week!! Down 14 oz since beginning the Zero Carb food. We are happurry about that, and one thing that Teri really likes about feeding the Young Again Zero Carb dry food, is that she can leave down 'free choice'.

Us kitties spend most of our time in the basement watching Cat TV or burrowed in our sleepin' bag, so we have to walk up 2 flights of stairs to get a snack, but that's actually good exercise to burn off a few calories anyway, hahameow.

We are still eating some raw RadCat, and some Nulo and Life's Abundance Instictive canned, too (TomTom gets our leftovers) and Teri thinks Coco's slimmed down a bit too (she kinda needed to as she gained a pound since she was spayed a year ago...and Sammy? Well, he chunked up from just over 6# to just under 9# since he was neutered, so he is dieting, too...but at least with Young Again's Zero Carb kibble, it doesn't really seem like a diet

We so much liked this Infographic that we are posting it again (just so you know, Disco's caloric needs for him to lose weight are ~ 195kcals)
