"Be The Change" Day

Just like I said on my blog…”I’m still Reelin’ from the Feelin” I got being at BlogPaws!

I am a breeder of Cornish Rex cats (I think most of you at BlogPaws met Brighton and my Sphynx, Disco). Breeders are not typically held in good graces with those involved in rescue as many are not responsible for the lifetime care of their cats.

I am proud to say that in 21 years of raising these cats, I have only lost track of 2 cats, and that was due to the families divorcing and not letting me know where they went–once their phones were disconnected, their mail returned and their email addresses bounced back…I am sad that I don’t know where the cats are now.

I will take a kitty back for any reason, and it comforts me to know that 99% of people who have cats from me know how important that commitment is for me.

Last year I took back 3 cats for behavior issues and was able to rehab them and find the right new homes for them and I am thankful every day that I got them back and was able to give them a second chance at a furrever home.

And, being a vet tech, it is my calling to end each day knowing I helped someone take care of their cat better, and I get a lot of pleasure out of that and have helped quite a few CB kitties with their health issues. As we know, the best pet owner is an educated one. (that is one thing I really felt at BlogPaws, how committed everyone was to their animals and animal welfare).

So my “Be the Change” for April is to donate all my PawPoints from Scoop Away litter (which I don’t use anymore but don’t really need anything in the rewards available) to TABBY'S PLACE a wonderful cat rescue in Pennsylvania. I also made a small donation today to Pets Without Parents, a Columbus Ohio organization that I learned about at BlogPaws.

So, today. I'm joining in, spreading the word, meeting the challenge, and smiling, a lot!

  3. It was so wonderful to meet you--and your gorgeous kitties! That was the first time I ever got to pet a Cornish Rex or a Sphynx cat. I miss all the great people I met at BlogPaws, too, and I'm glad to be able to participate in the Be The Change Challenge.

  5. I don't get this negative against breeders. I think that is how the animals have been reproducing for years and people can get a rescue cat if they want but when you want a special breed, you can't wait all your life to have that specific breed. You I know for the short time that I have followed your blog are a very responsible person with animals and you love them very much.

  6. When we were looking for a Siamese after we lost our Siamese (adopting her at age 6 after her family was divorcing and neither wanted to keep her) we interviewed a few breeders. We asked for references and to meet. We met several of them at cat shows. What impressed us after spending so much time on the shelter side of cats was how much these people adored their cats. I don't know that we met anyone just doing the cat breeding thing "to make money." All of these cats looked happy, healthy and well loved. Some were stressed, certainly--but many seemed to revel in the attention of the judges! (Particularly the orientals!)

  7. No problem with ethical breeders; the problem is finding them!

  8. HOW DID WE MISS WEDNESDAY'S POSTIE??
Oh yeah... we have been eh-hem, busy.
I love the pictures. What a blast that was. I think it is the coolest thing that you took Disco and Brighton. Mom said they were the nicest kitties, a lot like Caesar. He loved everyone and even liked going in the car to the vet.

You have a tender heart Teri, that is why you take care of your kitties and the kittens too.
(Mom says she would be the same way.) They are your children that you have adopted to responsible owners.

Please give all of the kittens a gentle bonk from me and mom too.
Mom has a friend in Hamilton and they both shop once a month and drop off the stash at the Loudoun animal Shelter. She also buys kitty foods and litters and brings them to Loudoun Interfaith Relief every month. Families have a hard time getting proper food for their kitties when there are hard times and job losses and such.

paw taps for a happy week-end
Best wishes for a non-hissing adventure to the vetlady for their 3 month checkup

  9. I have been noticing it more and more lately that people solely in rescue feel that breeders are the worst sort of person in the world. I happen to know that the reputable and responsible breeders out there do everything in their power to make sure that their lines are healthy, loved, and remembered throughout their lives whether they live in their breeders home or with a family who love them. I commend you for doing the right thing and keeping in touch with all of your babies families.

  11. We know how much you love all your kitties, but we did not know you were also a vet tech!

Mom's somewhat pleased with the progress Gandalf and Whitey have made with their marking issues after all the advice and support from you and the CB. Even though they have had a few set-backs, she sees a light at the end of the tunnel! We are all grateful for the support of you the CB!

  13. That is a great post and that is terrific that you take the cats back if they don't work out. I think breeders have a big part in the animal world simply because they are a big help in educating people about their health and especially about spaying and neutering the animals. Have a great day and thanks so much for visiting our blog.
