Frootbat Friday 'n More...

Double the Frooti-ness this Friday, Elliot and Jacob...Jacob is one of our extended family and it's obvious he and Elliot are fast friends!

It was time for Brighton to have his yearly exam, Rabies vaccine, and get his blood and pee tests, and everything checked out pretty good! He needs his teeth cleaned soon, but his blood work was real good and improved since last year, when his urinary blockage had some effect on his kidney values. His BUN was 34, a little high for a 5 year old cat, but still slightly better than 6 months ago.

He didn't have enough urine to collect that day, so he had to go back the next day and I think he held it and held it til he couldn't wait for the tech to collect it, and he peed in the empty litterbox in his cage (which we put in there just in case that happened). Soooo...the urine was really concentrated with a few struvite crystals, both of which are a concern with his history of blockage.

Teri thinks for 24 hours he didn't drink normally or urinate as frequently as he would have at home, since he was at the vets, but she will retest him in about a month by trying to collect a 'free catch' at home.

Brighton was very vocal in the hospital cage, but enjoyed his time wandering round the hospital and finding some fresh nip (they grow it at the hospital!), and a nice cat bed with a Snuggle Safe inside!

  9. Mr Brighterpants is our HEEROW. We love him. He is so brave. Milesy gets the shakes at the vet, and I just do not want to be there so I get kind of worried.
We are thrilled that Mr. Brighterpants' tests came back good. That just made our day!

big bonks for a happy adventure this week-end.
    You are loved

  12. We love the frootbats and we are soooooo happy that Brighton checked out ok. May he drink lots and lots of water as he should...Mom has been giving me water shots in the mouth the make sure I drink enough water. It's only water, but I still try to not swallow sometimes. I don't know why! Surely you are better behaved than me though and drink enough water...right? Mom give chicken boiled in water then hand feeds it to me so I get not only the watery chicken, but then I drink the broth...SOO GOOOD! YUM! Purrs, Lolo (and Tiny, Ellwood and Ginger)

  14. Awww look at those cute little faces and those huge frootbats!!
We are glad that Brighton's vet visit went well, and hope the next urine sample is less concentrated.
That is very considerate of the hospital to grow fresh nip and we are going to ask our vet why he doesn't grow some for us.
